What do I need to start my training?

You will need to satisfy specific FAA requirements to obtain your license, however to start your

training you only need the passion and desire to fly. If you are not sure if flying is for you, we
encourage you to stop by and take an introductory flight.

How much does it cost to get my license?

The cost of training varies on a case by case basis depending on numerous factors including each
student’s aptitude and dedication to the program. The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of
flight instruction. In general you can expect half of your total training hours to be solo and the
other half with an instructor. In addition, you will need approximately 20 hours of ground
instruction. Historically, most Santa Monica Aviation students have completed their training
within the 40-hour FAA minimum. Your average cost of training is $16,000 USD for
your Private Pilot license.  Financial Aid is available through AOPA.

How quickly can I get my license?

As quickly as you are comfortable and able to. The FAA minimum is 40 hours of instructions,
therefore it is possible to complete the course within a few months to a year, depending on your schedule and time commitment.

What if I have a busy work schedule?

We work very flexible hours. In fact, most of our students work full time and are only able to fly
part-time, around their work schedule.

Do you have multiple flight instructors?

Your level of comfort with the instructor of your choice is most important. This is why we have a team of flight instructors to fit your personality and comfort level.

What type of training and testing do you offer?

Private Pilot, Instrument Pilot, Commercial Single Engine, Commercial Multi-Engine, Recurrency,
Flight reviews, Proficiency checks.

What types of aircraft do you offer training in?

We are an authorized Cessna Center, using only Cessna aircraft.

How do your prices and rates compare with your competition?

Our prices are competitive with the market while maintaining the highest level of quality and service. Because we are the authorized Cessna Center at the Santa Monica Airport, we take great pride and detail in keeping our aircrafts in the best condition possible.

Which airports do you offer flight training?

All of our flight training and flight training facilities are located at the Santa Monica Airport.

How old do I need to be to get my pilot license?

You need to be at least 17 years old to get a Private Pilot license. You only need to be 16 years
old to fly the airplane solo. However, there is no minimum age for flight training.

Do you offer demo flights?

Yes. A demo flight is the best way to get an introduction to flight training. It consists of a brief
introduction to airplanes and aerodynamics followed by a 30-60 minute flight where your
instructor will teach you to perform some basic maneuvers. This is an ideal way to discover if
flying is what you want to do. It is also an ideal gift if you have a loved one who has always
wanted to fly. The cost of a demo flight varies from $35-$200.

How often are your training aircraft inspected?

Since we have our own maintenance facility, our aircrafts are inspected and maintained virtually
on a daily basis. Any issues discovered are immediately addressed and fixed. In addition, we
perform a complete maintenance on our aircraft, as per federal aviation (FAA) guidelines and
